Winter Tour Program Details
Day 1: Queen Alia Airport – Madaba
Arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. Our airport representative will be waiting for you to assist with visa procedures. The airport representative will walk you through customs and down to the luggage hall. Afterwards, meet with your driver in the arrival hall. The driver will be holding a name sign. Transfer to your hotel in Madaba for an overnight.
Day 2: Madaba – Mount Nebo – Dead Sea – Petra Hotel
After breakfast at your hotel, meet with you cycling guide! Today, you will spend 2 to 3 hours of cycling starting from St. George’s Church in Madaba. Continue to cycle the scenic backroads to Mount Nebo. Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge approximately 710 meters above sea level. Part of the Abarim mountain range, Mount Nebo is mentioned in the Bible where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death.
During the bike ride, you’ll have breathtaking views across the Jordan Valley and down to the Dead Sea: lowest point on earth’s surface. Enjoy a day-entry to the sea. Here you can relax and float in its salty waters and experience the famous healing mud. Lunch will be included at a 4-star hotel. Afterwards, transfer to Petra for check-in and overnight.
Day 3: Petra
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll visit Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also known as one of the seven wonders of the world. Petra was carved out of the rocky southern Jordanian desert by the Nabateans over 2000 years ago. What was then the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom, Petra was lost for 2000 years until it was rediscovered 200 years ago by a Swedish explorer. Over the past 200 years, more and more of Petra has been uncovered, and more treasures are still being uncovered to this day.
Meet with your driver and transfer to the ‘back door’ of Petra, where you will be able to see the city from the opposite direction that most experience it. Climb up the steps and hike the back door route to the Monastery, one of Petra’s largest carved façades. This route will allow you to witness beautiful views over the surrounding area and a chance to explore. You will enjoy hiking inside of Petra at the Snake Monument, close to Jabal Haroun Mountain.
Follow the Monastery steps back down to the Colonnaded Street, Theater, Street of Facades and finally the Treasury, which is the most photographed image of Petra and an awe-inspiring sight. Leaving Petra through the Siq, providing great photo opps and views.
Although a lot of walking and moderate climbing, it is definitely worth the incredible views! Make sure that your phone or camera is fully charged for tons of photo opportunities. At the end of your day, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner then transfer back to your hotel for an overnight.
Day 4: Petra – Wadi Ghwiar – Petra
After breakfast at your hotel, get ready for another activity-packed day! Transfer to Mansurah, the entrance of Wadi Gwair at the city of Shobak where you will hike. This hike takes approximately 7 hours. Take in all that nature has to offer including the stream that runs down the Wadi where you will trek through. In the spring the pools maybe deeper and it is possible you might have to swim for a few meters. At the top of the Wadi, there are magnificent formations and colors in the sandstone and below, a spectacular hanging garden of fern and palms.At the end of your day, transportation will be waiting for you at Feynan taking you back to your hotel for an overnight.
Lunch boxes will be provided.
Optional activities for tonight : Petra by Night (every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening), Petra Kitchen cooking course, local Turkish Bath.
Day 5: Petra – Wadi Rum
After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy the morning at your leisure. Either stay-in and have a relaxing morning or explore around Petra on your own.
In the afternoon, check-out and meet with your driver to transfer to Wadi Rum. Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock. It is the largest wadi in Jordan. It is also known for its extraordinary red desert, famous for Lawrence of Arabia and more recently, the Star Wars, Aladdin, and Martian films.
Nearing the sunset, you will have an extraordinary sunset experience while riding a camel for one hour. At the end of your day, transfer to your campsite for a freshly prepared dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Wadi Rum
After breakfast, meet with your Bedouin English-speaking guide and transfer to Wadi Rum for a day of hiking and camping in the desert! Discover the Moon Valley by following the steps of Lawrence of Arabia. After your day of hiking, the guide will stop at a safe location in the middle of the desert for camp set-up and a freshly prepared dinner.
Enjoy tonight under the stars and beautiful silence of the desert.
Sleeping bags will not be provided; you must bring your own.
Day 7: Wadi Rum – Aqaba
In the morning, your Bedouin guide will prepare breakfast. Following breakfast, get ready for another day of exploring in the desert! Enjoy a half-day jeep tour of Wadi Rum, a jeep tour is the best way to discover many sites in Wadi Rum. The jeep will stop at each site giving you time to roam around and a chance to climb some of the beautiful natural formed bridges in Wadi Rum.
Afterwards, transfer to Aqaba. Here you will have day-entry to one of the local beaches and enjoy lunch. There are plenty of water activities you can book on your own upon arrival. At the end of your day, transfer to your hotel for check-in and overnight.
Day 8: Aqaba – Queen Alia International Airport
Check out of your hotel and transfer to Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) for departure. Keep in mind that you need to be at the airport 3 hours prior to your departure time. The driving distance from Aqaba to QAIA is 4 hours. End of tour. Optional: fly out of Aqaba International Airport (AIA) for final departure home or take a 45-minute flight from AIA to QAIA for final departure home. Inquire for more details.
